Featuring a removable upper center board for easier installation of flight electronics as well as a redesigned power distribution system, the Spreading Wings S1000+ Octocopter with A2 Flight Controller from DJI continues the legacy of the original S1000. The S1000+ is a collapsible, eight-propeller RC helicopter designed to carry a DSLR or similar-sized camera. With a 24-pound maximum takeoff weight, it is intended to serve as a camera platform, allowing professional videographers and photographers to add dynamic aerial shots to their productions.
The bundle features the DJI A2 flight control system, a collection of hardware components that control mixing, regulate power, provide sensor data, and include a 2.4 GHz DR16 receiver. The flight control system features attitude and GPS attitude flight modes, offering the pilot varying degrees of autopilot intervention depending on skill level and preference. In GPS mode it is possible to hover in a fixed position, which is ideal for capturing static video shots. In attitude mode, the flight controller will use IMU data to keep the aircraft stable, but when hovering it may drift due to inertia or wind currents. The A2 also features return to home, Intelligent Orientation Control, and other features made possible thanks to computerized, GPU-based flight control. The built-in receiver is compatible with Futaba FASST series and DJI DESST series transmitters (radio controllers). Third-party receivers are also supported.
The S1000 is designed to power 6S lithium-polymer batteries. It will support capacities between 10,000 and 20,000mAh, and requires a discharge rate of at least 15C. With a 15,000mAh battery and a take-off weight of 21 pounds, it is estimated to fly approximately 15 minutes.
