I've been researching a smart lighting solution for my bedroom for a long time. Lifx and Philips Hue being the two leading brands with the least issues generally reported. I'd settled on LIFX and started looking to buy some to experiment and play with. I'd seen smart lights on shelves abroad but when the time came to pony up the cash and buy, imagine my surprise when I found that Tejar had LIFX + A19 Edison (screw on) bulbs on sale. I jumped at the price, but I always knew smart lighting would be expensive. So I paid up [easy to browse, find my product on Tejar, make and account and place the order, confirm payment on whatsapp] and waited [took about two weeks calendar for delivery, not bad at all].
The bulbs outup at about 75 watt equivalent, consume next to nothing in standby mode so you can leave them on, and have a looooooong lifetime. So rest easy there.
The first thing I noticed was that the package came in Tejar's cardboard box and not Lifx's 4 package. Good bye bulbs I thought, but to my relief, the packaging was solid, and my product comfy and safe. Each LIFX bulb comes in its own company packaging. The cylinder packing for each bulb is sturdy and quite snug, nice eye catching design and the product leaflet comes in box with about every detail you need.
The setup requires you to jump through some hoops and in the right order but otherwise, its quite novice friendly. LIFX is a great brand to jump into smart lighting with because LIFX does not require a separate hub controller like philips hue does. The app was easy to find on the IOS App store. Making a LIFX account was just as easy though no facebook or third party integration. I found that the fastest way was to set up each bulb individually on the app first through my phones wifi settings so I would recommend first time buyers do that. The app also made it really easy to name each bulb, then rename some bulbs because autocorrect and clumsy finger, and then assign themes colors and intensity. The app also lets you group bulbs by room or however you may want to so you can have multiple groups of bulbs in one room, and then assign different lights and colors to each group. Mucho customization with an easy app interface is always a win. There are some other fun things that the app lets you do to pull out every last drop of functionality from your smart lighting, but I'll leave that for you to discover.
I think my wife and I spent an hour just playing with colors and temperatures and yes, even the built in music equalizer that turned our bedroom into a night club for song or two! Great fun! And if you're worried about luminosity or brightness, dont be, the bulbs are surprisingly bright. I did however, remove my fixtures from the wall and left the bulbs exposed for maximum effect. It wont hurt the aesthetics of your room if you do though, the bulbs look really sleek and elegant on their own and I think my bedroom looks better with just the LIFX bulbs out there.
I was also able to integrate the bulbs with Alexa through my Echo Dot, and to Siri using my ipad as a hub controller and then using the Apple Home app. Alexa requires you to install the skill then link the skill with your LIFX account. It takes about 5 minutes for Alexa to discover the bulbs and set them up for you but after that, you're good to go. Apple Home setup requires you to open the app and then scan the QR code given to each bulb inside the product leaflet in each box. Scan 4 codes and Home recognized the bulbs easily as well. In my opinion, Siri did a better, faster job of controlling the bulbs than Alexa did, there is a noticeable lag with Alexa. What did blow me away was the discovery that you can setup Apple Home for geofencing and set up some automated commands for your lights!
All in all - if you can afford it, and this is a big big 'if', its not cheap; BUY LIFX products. Tejar ships reasonable quickly, the products arrive in great condition and the amount of fun that you can have with smart lighting is incredible. MUST BUY for any technophile or anyone looking to spice up the atmosphere in their houses.
