After making and testing 50+ prototypes, we choose our horizontal tilted geometry because it's the fastest to dock, you don't have to carefully slide the watch on from the side, and it's not top heavy. It's also ambidextrous, doesn't matter which side of the bed it's on, and very compact.
We didn't want some big thing on our desk just to charge our watch. We whittled it down to be clean, compact, and un-distracting.
